Wahoo Element Rival Multis-Sport Watch

The battle for self-quantifying tools is heating up. Wahoo has come on the scene more recently and seem to be taking control of the cycling market rather swiftly. I’ve heard the product is easier to use, it seems to be cheaper and their marketing and community is more engaging. I’ve only used Garmin over the years and Suunto make some nice watches, but now Wahoo is coming for them with their latest multi-sport watch, the Element Rival. So if you’re looking to step up your training, tracking and performance then this might be a good place to start | Link

COVID-19 is like running a marathon with no finish line…

Writer and sports science specialist Alex Hutchinson penned an interesting essay for the Globe and Mail about how managing ourselves through the Covid pandemic is like running a marathon with no finish line. He asks, “What does sports science say about how we can win it? In any feat of endurance, humans want to see the goal – and in the pandemic, we’re not there yet, despite the breakthroughs in vaccine research. Staying in the moment might be better for us than fantasizing about a future just beyond reach.” | Link

Conspirituality Podcast

It would be an understatement to say that our world is in a wild place right now, especially when it comes to media, the decentralized ‘mainstream’ outlets and the huge upwell of self-published individuals and a growing variety of mediums. So how do we know what’s real, whats half-true and what’s completely false? Well, I don’t have an answer for that but now more than ever the responsibility is on the individual to listen, learn and form our own thoughts. That sounds simple but in reality it’s actually very rare. Reading headlines, our selected edit of who we follow on social media, our conditioned bias and more all contribute to an easy opportunity to not truly think for ourselves. Even those we look up up, trust and respect are open to faults. I found myself confused by how Q’anon theories were getting lumped together with topics I was interested in, how was this dangerous right-wing movement intersecting with the alternative wellness industry? That’s what led me to this podcast which I’ve listened to a lot the last week. Going in the hosts were sharing their opinions, often not in alignment with my own but I decided to try to go in as objectively as I can and learn. I find they have a lot of interesting perspectives to share, a decent amount of scientific research and recently an episode with Charles Eisenstein who they’d previously done an entire episode criticizing. I don’t agree with everything they share, but it has been really insightful and educational to open up and listen | Link

Satisfy Running interviews Jordan Marie Daniel

Each season Satisfy features a few local runners from their campaign. This winter they connected with Jordan Marie Daniel, a runner and activist living in Los Angeles and the interview is worth reading. Her mission and purpose, using movement to reconnect her lineage, land and creating awareness is truly beautiful. I felt inspired by the work she’s doing and will hope to speak with her on the podcast in the future. In the meantime I recommend reading the interview and learning more about Jordan and the way she’s using running to create a better world | Link

Nike ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT%

For the last month I’ve been running in the Nike ZoomX Vaporfly NEXT% and surprisingly really like them. The last couple of years I’ve been pretty devoted to zero heal drop shoes, minimal cushioning and trying to retrain my feet on how to run and move properly. One of the benefits of that work is now that my running form has improved, I’m able to wear more shoes without my body heal striking or doing other unhealthy habits, so while these Nikes have a lot of cushioning, I’m using it more properly and not relying on it to get away with bad form. The shoes themselves feel amazing, light, fast and I feel like I could keep going forever in them. The ZoomX foam is really responsive and comfortable, the shape fits my feet really well and good gear inspires movement, and I honestly like to go run more since I’ve got these from Vancouver Run Co | Link
