How to Know God

By Paul Selig
Paul was born in New York City and received his master’s degree from Yale. A spiritual experience in 1987 left him clairvoyant. As a way to gain a context for what he was beginning to experience he studied a form of energy healing and began to “hear” for his clients. Described as “a medium for the living,” Paul has the unique ability to step-into and “become” the people his clients ask about, often taking on their personalities and physical characteristics as he “hears” them telepathically.
Why you ask questions, why you inquire, why you seek, is to comprehend, to understand the self in relation to a potential. “What will happen if? “ How will I know myself when?” To comprehend the self in relation to a potential is to idolize or idealize an outcome that you may or may not know. The inquiry, in some ways, is a fishing expedition. “How might it feel, how might I feel, if and when?” To comprehend the present moment, the only moment there is, is to comprehend eternity. And, in eternity, these questions that you would ask are no longer present, because there is no requirement for them. Realization comes to the one who comprehends who or what he is in agreement to eternity beyond the construct of a reality that you have succumbed to, in many ways, in denial of the divine nature of your being.
The broadcast we come with, effortlessly if you must know, is of truth, and in accord to truth. And, indeed, in truth, a lie cannot be held. So the broadcast you hear now, and the agreement to listen, claims you in the present moment, beyond the questions of what if and when that you might know yourselves through. The denial of God can only happen in the present moment either. Do you understand this? To understand God and to comprehend God is to comprehend the present moment — not the what if, and never the when, because this is the only moment that eternity expresses in.
To understand the self as a construct is beneficial. The idea of self, the mandates of personality, the agreements to society, the what ifs, are born in these places. “What if I am not the man I should be, what if the job I want doesn’t come, what if the the children never arrive, what if we don’t have the money we need” are all projections in outcome. And what you seek, through outcome, takes you away from the moment you stand in, and therefore you deny God because God understands itself in broadcast in eternity, which you may only know in the present moment. To pray for a future outcome is, indeed, not wrong if you comprehend that the one praying is operating in eternity, where there is no future. There is only now. To reframe this, for those of you who are confused, is to tell you, very simply, the now that you sit in, and the broadcast of now, is indeed God.
Now, you identify God through ideologies — the man in the cloud, the absolute Divine. It really matters not how you decide it is. The important thing you do is decide that it is, because once you understand that it is, you have given it access to the subconscious and conscious mind as they may be re-known in the eternal now. To become complicit or self-identified with the denial of God is indeed the action of fear — to tell you, “No, it cannot be, it must not be,” because, if it is, none of the things you say you want, should or could be, may come to pass. The way to get what you want is to claim it, to grab it from someone else, to get it while it’s hot. Do you understand this? The hand that is open to receive is in reception. The hand that is grabbing is operating in fear, because that hand believes that there is only one moment to claim the thing in or it will be gone. And scarcity, you see, the belief in scarcity, is the game of fear. “There will be no love for me. I will take what I can get.” “There will be no money for me. I will live on what I have.” To understand abundance is, indeed, to understand God — God as Source. And the Source of all things indeed does not limit you, although you limit yourselves. To be in reception to anything is to be in allowance. To be in allowance requires one thing — to agree that it can be.
The denial of God is also the denial of free will, and we will explain this. To say yes to the Divine Self — “I may be known in a new way, I am willing to be known in a new way” — claims you in an identification with change. The denial of God is also the denial that you can make that choice. And the right use of will, we have to say, is the surrender of it, and the gifting of it, in reception, to the Divine Self, so that the braiding of the will, the reliance upon the Divine and the agreement that the will may be known through it, can indeed ensue.
Our requirement for our students has always been singular. You have to say yes to the journey before you. We roll out the welcome mat. We show you the signposts on the road. We do our best to support you through the challenges you face. We do not deny your will, and we agree to you at whatever level you have aligned as. And the outpicturing of the lives you live are, indeed, the agreement to a level of consciousness. The one who fights with his father is learning lessons of argument. They may be beneficial. They may be habituated behaviors. To move beyond the reliance upon the old is to also make a choice. “I am willing to know myself in a higher way beyond the construct of relationships that I have chosen to learn through in fear or in anger.” Everything exists in agreement. We cannot stress this often enough. By agreement we mean accord — a-c-c-o-r-d, a-c-h-o-r-d as on a piano. And the accord of the True Self, the claim “I Have Come, I Have Come, I Have Come,” is the agreement to the alignment to the Kingdom. The Kingdom is claimed by each of you in a total way eventually. Underline the word eventually.
There is an aspect of self, ever present, who always abides there, who knows herself in union and always comprehends herself in this eternal now where God is always known. The release of the false self, or the reorientation to the Divine Self at the cost of the small self, is what we teach. And, as you are unmasked, you are re-seen, because you are exposed and agreed to as you truly are beyond the mask you have thought you were.
Now, there is no game here, nor is there a finish line, a goalpost, a place to arrive to where you are not who you are. If you understand that revelation is indeed revealing, you are revealed through this process outside of the known, outside of your idea of time, outside of the measuring sticks that you seek to employ to find out how far along on the path you are — “Will I get there?” “Will I know God?” “Will I be seen anew?” — again, projections beyond the present moment that seek outcome through the old self’s systems of argument, or agreement to what can be.
The utilization of energy as a teaching tool has been employed here for several reasons. To understand the Divine Self is, indeed, to know the presence of God. If your vibratory field is uplifting, and the manifestation of the uplifting is present in the physical self, you have a barometer in your own language, experiential language, of what presence is. To move beyond the reliance on that presence, to succumb or surrender in entirety, is to understand that the pond that you have dipped your foot in — “I have had an experience of God” — can become the pond you swim in and the ocean you live in as you say yes to the inherent presence of the Divine that does express — underline does — in the manifest world.
The choice to surrender, and it is indeed a choice, can come in several ways. You can say, “Oh, God, please save me. I am drowning in this ocean,” and then realize that ocean is, indeed, God and can carry you in its own current to where you are free of the pain or shame or fear that you have known yourself through. It often comes through offering. “Dear God, I am willing to be re-known, to re-see the self that has been in broadcast that aligns me to the fear or the shame or the pain that I have known myself in.” Surrender comes, again and again and again, through acquiescence, the open hand in offering, not the one seeking to grab. The one who is drowning who grabs onto the rescuer and seeks to pull him down with him does not meet a good fate. The one who says, “I will be carried,” and stops the struggle, allows the body to find the current, to know God as God is always present.
“What does it mean to know God?” he asks. “I still understand it theoretically. I have had experience, yes. But I don’t feel that I live in God, as you say we do.” We would like to answer this carefully, not only for you but for our students, who are also asking. The denial of God is the issue, and you have been trained to deny God, you have been taught to deny it, and you have aligned to fear, used as a teacher, perhaps, but fear will always claim you in separation. To know God is to know the self beyond the idea of fear. And, truly, the self who knows God is not operating in fear, because to know from and of God is to be without it. “What does this mean?” he asks. “I still don’t know God.” We are teaching you how to, today, if you are listening. The agreement to become, to become who you truly are, is a process of surrender to a new agreement, and the primary agreement that you will be working with is the Divine as presence, as manifest in all things. God is the window and what lays beyond the window, God in the one before you, God in the one behind you, God in who you love, and who you are fearful of.
The reliance upon the old systems to be your teachers — and you rely upon judgment for this — has claimed you in much pain. “He hurt my feelings. I will be angry or ashamed. I will remove myself from him. I will get him back. I will deny the presence of God in him, just to show him who I am.” And, in all of those acts, you have denied the Divine in him, and yourself as well, because to deny God in another is to deny it in yourself. The presence of the Divine in all things, the manifestation of God as all things, is the comprehension, indeed, of the Kingdom. And your reliance upon the new, the new idea, the Divine as all things, will indeed reclaim you and maintain you in the Upper Room.
“How is this possible?” he says. “We have glimpses, experiences, yes. We put our foot in the water, yes. But we are called back to shore at the first sign of discomfort, at the first inkling of fear, at the first moment of discord with another. How do we know God?” We will give you an answer. Accept that God is all things, inclusive of those things that are causing you pain. Then you are not denying God. Do you understand this? God as the pain does not empower the pain. In fact, what it does is release the pain, because the pain is re-known. You are not trying to release the pain. You are knowing God where the experience of pain has been. And suffering itself, which is indeed the denial of God, is re-known in the agreement to God where the suffering is. He doesn’t like this teaching. “It feels like a paradox. I don’t want to be in pain, know God where the pain is. I am free from pain, but I can’t ask to be free from pain? I just have to say God is as the pain?” You have to know God, the presence of God, where the difficulty seems to be — underline seems — because your experience, through presence, will transform you and the alignment you have claimed to the difficulty you experience. The Divine Self as you is your refuge. That aspect of self, the Monad or Christ, the eternal light within who holds you in love, will not abandon you, and is the finest friend you will ever have. You seek God through things, through your friendships, your relations with others. And, while God is present as those things, the reliance upon them as God becomes a form of idolatry. In other words, “If God is my friendship, and the friendship is ended, what happened to God?” Do you understand the idea?
Now, the teaching you are receiving is coming in several ways, and with some rapidity. The fluency of the teaching through Paul’s system is improved, and he is not yet used to the ease of this transmission. It feels too casual. What makes it casual is that you are no longer deciding who you are as the broadcaster. The aspect of self that is in broadcast is indeed the aspect of self who operates in the Upper Room, without the agreement to the lower strata that would diminish the ability of the ease of the transmission. Our requirement for our students now is to be lifted as well. Sit still where you are, and make a new choice, if you wish:
“I am willing to rely on the Divine as the Source of all things. I am willing to accept myself as of this Source so that the idea of separation is released in a new awareness of who I truly am as of God.”
Underline the word of. To be of God is not to be separate from it. And the experience of union is the broadcast of God as the who and the what you are, and all things you experience.
“I am willing to be re-known in the Upper Room, reclaimed in the Upper Room, experienced by and with the Divine Self as who and what in the Upper Room.”
When we count to three, we will lift the group to the Upper Room. You simply have to say yes, when you are asked if you are willing, and the lifting will occur. Are you willing to be lifted to the upper room? [Yes.]
One. Two. Three.
You are in the Upper Room. Be lifted as one. Be still and know.
You may say this now:
“I am in the Upper Room.”
Let yourself be known. Let the Divine, the true Source of all things, claim you fully. You may say these words softly after we say them:
“I am known. I am known. I am known.”
And be received. Let yourself be received.
“I am known by the light that is God. I am known by the wind that is God. I am known by the stars that are God. I am known by the breath that is God. I am known to all things, because God is all things, and I am, indeed, known.”
Say this again, if you wish:
“I am known. I am known. I am known.”
Be received. Feel this, yes.
Now, where are you in this Upper Room, and what are the questions you might have? You may find very quickly that you have none. The what ifs and the fears of yesterday and tomorrow do not exist here. You move into knowing, and knowing is in agreement to the Source, and, as you operate in knowing, you cease the denial of God, because the one who knows, knows who she is, in agreement or consort — accord if you wish, a-c-c-o-r-d, a-c-h-o-r-d — with the great sound of God, the tone, the vibration, the experience of God that is all things, nonexclusive of who and what you are. Period. Period. Period.
Stay there, as you wish. You may return when you are ready. Period. Period. Period.
